Ahmad's troubles began when he wore a football shirt with the Qatar logo when he attended a match between Qatar and Iraq at AlNayhan Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 22, 2019. He was approached by officials and said he was racially abused by them and ordered to take off his shirt. The following day, he was arrested again by officials and said he was severely assaulted before being arrested and imprisoned.
